5 days on the Silver Spirit

Last year, I participated in a cruise seminar, during which I won a five-day cruise with the Silver Spirit of the shipping company Silversea. (Zum deutschen Blog) You can imagine how happy I was!

Now I am on board and enjoy the stay to the fullest. With Air France I flew over Paris to Rennes. Even though I only have an hour, my luggage arrives with me at the small airport of Rennes in Brittany.

With me, 7 other travel agents reach the destination. With a luxurious minibus we are picked up and driven to the port to St. Malo, which is about 70 km away.

There she is in the middle of the harbor basin, the Silver Spirit. Against the blue sky and the partial turquoise water the white ship stands out beautifully.

The Silversea fleet currently comprises of 10 ships, the Silver Spirit with 540 passengers being one of the largest. Since it is the only cruise ship in the harbor, the rest are mostly small sailing boats, it appears quite large.

We take our luggage to the ship and receive not only our suit card at the reception but also a glass of champagne. Like almost all beverages the champagne is included in the fare for the trip, as the the shipping company has got the all-inclusive concept on their ships.

My Suite:

I am very curious now, of course, what my suite looks like. And I am thrilled! All suites are located in the front part of the ship; at the rear are all public areas.

My Verandasuite is almost at the front on deck 7. The large bathroom has a glazed shower, which also has a rain shower and in addition a really large bath tub, where I can stretch out completely, which of course I try…

Each suite has got a butler service. So Chetan shows me first how the two TVs (one at the living area, the other at the bed), as they are integrated in the mirror. Great technique! Then he asks me which care products I would like to have. Three different product lines are available. The minibar is also equipped to my wishes and is of course also included.

Then he leaves me alone, if I would have liked it, he would have unpacked my suitcase, but I’d rather do this by myself and put my clothes in the large walk-in closet. My balcony is quite large, equipped with two adjustable chairs and a table. Here I enjoy the fantastic view onto St. Malo. While doing this I think about which of the nine different pillow options I want to bed my head on tonight.

On Board:

Before we have dinner at La Terrazza, the Italian restaurant, I do explore the Silver Spirit a bit further on.

In the main restaurant on deck 4 everyone can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner à la carte and create their own menu. Special wishes will be fulfilled if possible.

I certainly try the 24 hour room service. Breakfast on the balcony, scones in the afternoon …

In the evening, several restaurants offer additional dining options, such as Asian or Relais & Chateau.

During the day and evenings, a bit of entertainment is offered, lecturers will talk about the next stops, live music or shows in the theater are shown. There are also art auctions or the casino. Those who like can join guided tours on the bridge or the kitchen. For relaxation, there is the spa area, as well as the gym and the offered sports courses, such as Yoga or Pilates.

Really great is the observation lounge above the bridge. From here I enjoy the same view as the captain one deck below. This is a fantastic place, especially when the weather is not so great.
