The Ship
Once again I accompany a small group of customers of our office on a cruise. We will cruise “Around Cape Horn”. (Zum deutschen Blog und mehr Fotos.) We travel with the Danish tour operator Seadane.

After a more than 13 hour flight we come from the wet and cold German winter into the South American hot midsummer in Santiago de Chile. 70 minutes by bus and we arrive at the port of San Antonio.
There she is anchored, the Celebrity Infinity, which can host just under 2,200 passengers. Huge she looks in the midst of many small fishing boats. A real terminal does not exist. A large, almost, empty corrugated iron hall serves as a temporary solution for the passenger terminal.
It takes a while, but then we all have our key cards and we can go on board. We are welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine. We would like to see our stateroom and take a shower. After all, we have all been “on the road” for over 24 hours.
My inside stateroom is located on deck 3, almost at the bottom, as is the atrium. There is also the reception, tour desk and the Captain’s Club Counter, which is the loyalty program of the shipping company.
My cabin has about 15 square meters, equipped with a double bed, a couch, the table in front of it and a dressing table with chair. The TV is interactive and integrated into the wall unit. Two people will find enough space here, in the nightstands is also room for personal belongings. Also in the relatively large bathroom is enough space for all toiletries.
The mini bar is well stocked, hairdryer and safe are working, so we could start.
I made an appointment with my clients for a tour of the ship, but first the compulsory safety drill has to be completed.
Everything is explained in English, Spanish, French and German, then we set off.
We start on deck 3, where you will find the conference rooms, the wine cellar and the Tuscan Grille, which is subject to a charge.
Located on Decks 4 and 5 are most of the bars, the store, the access to the Celebrity Theater and of course the main restaurant, the “Trellis”. In this restaurant, dinner is served in two seating’s. On this trip at 6pm and at 8.30pm. Coordinated with this, the two performances start in the theater, which is right at the front. For guests in the high cabin categories there is an exclusive restaurant, the Blu.
Who guesses where my favorite place is? Right, the gelateria on deck 5! I love ice cream and this is really delicious. There is also plenty of ice in the Martini Bar, some bottles are enclosed in the ice up to the neck for decoration, the bar is also frosted, so the drinks at least get not warm. Here now and then the “Silent Disco” takes place. Great fun for all participants, everyone wears headphones and dances to the music he’s listening to. There are three different programs.
Professional photographers exhibit their photos of the guests, even a special studio for photo shootings is on board. If you want to bring your loved ones great pictures back home, here is your opportunity.
The upper decks of Celebrity Infinity
We skip the next decks, because here are only cabins and suites. On deck 10 it gets interesting again. Two outdoor pools and several hot tubs are already heavily occupied. The solarium, the indoor pool area, is not busy with the heat outside. All the more so in the buffet restaurant, the Oceanview Café. Almost the whole day long all passengers get food here on a high level.
Several outdoor bars invite sun worshipers to drink. Everywhere empty sun loungers can be found and the pool towels, for self-service. Above the sundeck, on deck 11 is the jogging track. Six times around and a kilometer is done.
The sporty fellow travelers will find the state-of-the-art fitness area at the very front of Deck 10. Here you will also find free but also paid courses. If you prefer to pamper yourself, book a massage at the Canyon Ranch Spa Club or daily or weekly passes for the sauna area, with the various saunas.
My favorite spot while having bad weather will probably be the Constellation Lounge on Deck 11, because here you have the best view forward through the huge panoramic windows.
At the very back of deck 12 we find the sports field and the large outdoor screen, where films are also shown in the evening. Tucked away in blankets, you can watch old and new blockbusters in wind-protected cabanas.
My customers and I are excited. Two weeks, the Celebrity Infinity is now our home. We will certainly not lack any amenities here.
Now let’s taste our dinner first. Roberto, our waiter at our table, will make sure we do not miss a culinary highlight.
In my next blog post, I’ll tell you about my experiences of the first week in Chile. Will the weather last? Do we see albatrosses and whales that should be found here in the waters of the Chilean fjords?
You will get to know it. I look forward to you all. Stay tuned, it’s best to subscribe to the newsletter, then you will not miss a post. More is also available on Instagram, Pinterest and of course Facebook. I like you to comment! See you!
[…] Early in the morning, a bus brings us to San Diego, where our ship, the Celebrity Infinity, is already waiting for us. Since I made a cruise already on the vessel in January, I will spare you another report, you can read it here. […]
We hope you like the Infinity. We will be on it, hopefully, in Sept. From Lisbon to Barcelona, 10 nights.
That is great! It´s a very nice vessel with a very friendly crew and great shows onboard.
Have a good time and fun!
Best regards
Gabriela
